LAURENCE ELIAS
COLLAGES: BRIDGING PRACTICES
I extended investigations of the perceptual peculiarities of layered patterns, in String Drawings, with "Peek-a-Boo en Boîte" (2020). This work entailed digital printing, laser cutting and thermoforming on sheet acrylic. The front layer overlying the frame represents a string grid, but it is so obviously not actually made of string that the back layer, which is also a digital print, appears at first glance to be real. An image of the string grid seen through a transparent polyhedron is situated on top of the back layer, and bridges this work to my other current artistic practice.
"A Pre-Impressionist and a Surrealist Walk into a Paris Bar" (2018) is an art historical jest. Enjoy!
