Cubes are the most commonly encountered of the five Platonic solids.  I find their simplicity and familiarity satisfying. Produced as laser-shaped and reflective images, their appearances can convincingly mimic 3D objects. This can be especially striking when the pieces are mounted a few inches off the wall and at a slight angle.  Viewers may find this effect uncanny and be put in mind of the constructed nature of perception.
